Closing in on 2010

Well I've let the blog slip yet another 3 months...

Football season was busy this year. Eastlake made it to the first round of playoffs and then our year was sadly over. It was fun to take Jaydan to see daddy coaching and watch the "big boys" play ball. Our family's beloved Dawgs did better than anticipated as much of the nation noticed. It was a fun season to watch with the new coaching staff and we can't wait for one more year of Locker.

The holiday season caught up to us very quickly this year. Halloween came and went - Jaydan had to miss trick or treating as he was a little under the weather. He was pretty happy just dressing up in his racecar driver outfit and running around Grandma and Grandpa's though.

Thanksgiving was a whirlwind - lots of food and family. Dirk's parents joined up with the extended Obermaier/Brown clan and we had a feast. Lots of fun and of course, Jaydan was the entertainer.
Christmas and Santa were a total blast this year. Jaydan learned about Santa and the toys that he would bring in his reindeer-pulled sleigh. Very exciting. We got a nice picture of Jaydan in Santa's lap looking like a deer in headlights... poor kid was hyperventilating and ready to bust out in big tears. He likes to look at his photo in retrospect though. Santa came to Grandma and Grandpa Obermaier's house and Jaydan was excited to receive a new bike, a huge fish tent and TONS of cars and other toys. It was an overwhelming morning followed by more toys and family at the Huebner's. It's nice to be back to a somewhat normal schedule now, though the chaos of the holidays is always fun.
We are looking forward to a fantastic 2010... baby Huebner #2 will arrive mid-June! We are hoping to move into a larger home sometime in the new year (preferably before the baby arrives or shortly thereafter). It's going to be a good year!!

FOOTBALL!

Yes, it's that time of year again. The Huebners are super busy between Eastlake Friday nights and UW Saturdays. Our weekends turn to ball, ball, ball for the next several months. It's a bit of craziness at our house.

The season actually got started at the beginning of the month and we had pre-season business going prior to that. The Wolves are 3-0 to date, with a game against Redmond tonight. My beloved Dawgs are 2-1... HUGE win against USC last weekend!! Unfortunately for me, I had to miss the game for work. Fortunately for Katie, she took my seat and was able to enjoy all the mayhem and excitement. Looking forward to another (knock on wood) win tomorrow against Stanford.

Jaydan has been to 2 EHS games. We are able to stay through halftime and most of the 3rd quarter before it's time for a night diaper and pj's in the car and a ride home for bed. He seems to have a great time - he runs around and watches the "big boys" play "foofall" while pretending to throw and hike a ball. It's great to watch. He definitely knows that daddy is out on the field too. No Husky games for him as of yet and not too sure if we'll drag him out to the stadium this year. He is just too busy to be in the upper level with so much going on.

But, the Huebner house has it's canine pride again this year. Go Wolves!! GO DAWGS!!

OCD?

Jaydan might have a little bit of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder... he has the tendency to line things up in perfect rows...

Summer 2009

eating his first dum dum sucker
at the beach in Seaside

playing at the Redmond Town Center bear fountain

Summer has treated us well this year. We've been lucky enough to have gone to Chelan twice, Seaside and had some sunny days to play outside. Jaydan has been LOVING the warmer weather and has been a traveling trooper with our road trips.
Seaside was cool for the first couple days but Jaydan learned to appreciate walks on the beach. He enjoyed his first dum dum, lots of french fries, rides on the carousel and of course, the newness of sand. We had a great time with Dirk's family - Jaydan LOVES playing with his cousins!
More regular fun has been the local Duvall parks and some trips to Redmond Town Center to see the fountains. Jaydan loves the bears! We're looking forward to some more warm weather this week so that we can enjoy some more outdoor fun!!

Jaydan speaks!!

Okay, so he's been communicating rather well for a long time now but his words have been few and somewhat broken. Things like "daddy" and "pa" (for grandpa) have been around for awhile; "juice" and "please" are also well used. Jaydan FINALLY said "mom" at 17 months... I was beginning to wonder if would ever be uttered from his mouth. I must say that I am SO happy that he's finally calling me by some sort of name!

But, the biggest shocker for me was 2 days ago when he decided to throw out a very clear and distinct "dinosaur!" Threw me for a loop... at first I thought I was hearing things, hoping that I'd heard such a large word from my 18 month old. But, then it came again 3 additional times in the same day, "dinosaur!" followed by his signature stomping around. I LOVE IT!! Now that a 3 syllable word has made its way into the vocabulary, we're now working on reciting the alphabet.

Children are amazing.

Family Update

Obviously I'm not the best at keeping up on the blog. ;)

A lot has happened in the last few months. Jaydan turned 1 back in February - kid is growing like a weed and, as of his 15 month appointment, he is in the 90 percentile for his height. In contrast to that, he is apparently in the 10 percentile for his weight. Skinny little boy. He is very active and LOVES the outdoors. We play outside almost every day now that that weather is nice. He's great fun and is communicating so much now. Not only does he still sign, but he is starting to speak more clearly and is good at conveying what he wants. He's amazing.

Dirk is still working hard at both PRO and Eastlake. We are still in our townhouse in Duvall and kicking along day by day. I'm looking at going back to work part time just to bring in a little extra too.

In the extended family... my mom had stomach surgery a few days after Jaydan's birthday. She seemed to recover well other than some nausea that required trial and error of several medications. Then, right when she seemed to be getting back into the swing of things, she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. She had surgery for that on June 3 and is recovering well. She should be starting radiation therapy at the end of the month. All of her doctors are optimistic, telling her that, "if you're gonna have cancer, you've got the best kind." It's super small, super slow growing and they got it all out in surgery. As a family we're optimistic as well.

In the middle of trying to get my mom ready for surgery, we had some tough news about Dirk's cousin. He was in the hospital in a coma for about a week when the family decided it was time to let him go. Dirk went to Portland for the service while I stayed at my parents to help them. It was a crazy week for us.

Now it's summer and we're hoping to enjoy some sun time!! We headed to Chelan last weekend, courtesy of Bill and Linda, and had a BLAST. Jaydan did really well in the car and for the weekend overall. Our next venture will be back to Eastern WA for the 4th of July. My summer goal is to do a better job at this blog...

Auntie Karly's Surprise Visit!!

bath time...
I'll get the cup tower!

YAY!!
What's for dinner?

Karly decided to show up on us a couple weeks ago! It was so fun... we were all at my parents hanging out watching American Idol and all of the sudden, the front door opened and in she walked! So sweet. While she was here she took some fun pics of the boo...

Big 1 year old!!

So my little J-bug turned 1 last week!! We had a small family party for him on Saturday - it was lots of fun. I still haven't taken the time to get all of my pictures up so those are going to have to come later... He got lots of great clothes - a request from mommy because he's grown out of all the shower gifts we received. I actually started packing them up in the garage - 2 1/2 bins full so far!! Ridiculous. But they're all in great shape so we'll be reusing.

Jaydan's birthday was Thursday 2/19 and mine was the next day. For my present, he started WALKING!! YAY!! He's so big and now he hardly seems to crawl at all. Crazy. He has new walking shoes and we're ready to keep watching him get more and more coordinated on his feet!

Party Planner

We've planned a small family party for Jaydan's first birthday. All I can say is W-O-W!! I had NO clue how expensive this little gathering would get!! My brother-in-law was kind enough to reaffirm that it only gets worse from here too. Lovely. But, I can say that even though it's been a little stressful (I tend to stress a little over things like this) it's been fun to plan at the same time. I actually took the time to make the invites and plan to make thank you's too. We have a jungle theme going - matches Jaydan's nursery decor. Our first choice of theme was Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends... unfortunately, there is NOTHING out there!! I looked at ways to make the invites and decorations for the party but it turned out to be much too large an undertaking for me. So, we have jungle animals.

Still a Sicky

So Jaydan's fever never got below 101 by Tuesday - he woke up Monday morning at 103.6 and Tuesday morning at 103.4 so I took him to the doctor. She looked him over and diagnosed him with Roseola. I know, what is that? Apparently it's a common childhood disease with a 103-104 fever which breaks abruptly and is followed by a red, splotchy rash. Ick. So I left the doctor feeling better about what was going on.

Wednesday evening got a little tricky though. He hadn't eaten well all day, nor had he been drinking. So, as a result of that he didn't have enough wet diapers for the day and I was stressed about him getting dehydrated. I called the nurse on call and she told me to take him to Children's after hours at the hospital. Talk about freaking me out. We got him there and he (inevitably) started acting better. Once we got him into the exam room under the flourescent lighting, we noticed some splotchiness on his face. YAY!!

So after all the stressing, it was Roseola after all. This morning he still had a low grade fever but we were told last night not to be too concerned if that happened. After his morning nap his temp was back to normal and now his rash is all over his belly, neck and face. He looks sick now but everything is going to be fine!!

Sicky

Poor baby... Jaydan is sick for the first time! I actually didn't feel well this morning so I decided to stay home from church. Jaydan acted fine except that he wouldn't eat well. But, after he got up from his morning nap he was very flushed and BURNING up. Poor kid had a 102.9 fever!! So I gave him Tylenol... tried to get him to eat some bland food (got some banana in him) and am continuing to push the fluids. I feel so bad!

Accident

Wow... so we were in a car accident yesterday! We're all fine but it was a little scary and totally (obviously) unexpected. My mom, grandma, aunt, Jaydan and I were at Costco and driving back to my mom's house. We were on 85th at the 132nd intersection at a red light when I heard the screeching... I started to turn to look out the back window and then all the sudden the car jolted. Lovely. So a Subaru rear-ended a Mitsubishi that rear-ended a Toyota that rear-ended us. We were quite a spectacle as we blocked a main line on 85th. The police came and dealt with us after moving all 4 cars into the nearest parking lot. We sat for awhile as they did all the paperwork and talked to everyone about what happened - thank goodness for a patient baby! Jaydan was so good. Fortunately, my mom's car seems to have gotten away completely unscathed. Unfortunately, my mom ended up with some lower back pain and I have some major neck and shoulder pain. It's perfect for the migraines that I've just started to get under control. Today I have limited range of motion in my neck - it's fantastic. So I suppose that I'm going to have to file a medical claim and get some massage or something. This totally sucks.

Christmas was very interesting around here... more snow than anyone can remember... icy roads... Jaydan's FIRST Christmas... Huebner's brave drive to Redmond...

Weight Loss... Ick

So I'm starting a weight loss journey... ick. I'm way behind in my quest to lose weight post baby and post thyroid malfunction. I'm ready to leave the outer mack truck behind and seek out my former self. Saturday morning my mom and I are starting a Weight Watchers-esque program through Curves. We'll be meeting weekly, I think, and weighing in and taking responsibility for the calories we intake. Yikes... I've never taken that responsibility before. It's very scary and I'm totally intimidated by this whole dieting thing. It would help if I could find a way to fit in some good excercise time. My excuses are running dry as my parents do have a treadmill... I just have to figure out the best way to balance that piece of equipment with Jaydan. I prefer to work out in the morning so I only take 1 shower but Jaydan is super busy playing in the mornings... I may need to alter my schedule in order to accommodate him rather than trying to make him work around me.

Wow... I'm a mom. ;)

Happy 2009!

Here we are in a new year... already! I can't believe that Jaydan will turn 1 in just a couple months. It's CRAZY how time flies.

So the holiday season was a mess around here - literally a white, wet, icy, transportation nightmare. We were basically snowed in at my parents for a couple weeks. Karly and Carlos made it in just in time. Once they were here, the airports and the roads were too bad to deal with. Christmas was quiet - we weren't able to get out of my parents' neighborhood to get to Dirk's parents as usual so they ventured here. It was nice to be able to see them on Christmas day. We were able to make it to Federal Way for the annual Boxing Day celebration - it's always a good time. We then spent the night at Dirk's parents and then spent the following Saturday at Doug and Amy's for a belated Christmas celebration. All in all, the holiday went well and we were fortunate enough to spend all the time with family.

New Year's came quickly - snow still on the ground - and we spent the evening with the Malmbergs. Jaydan and Ava happily hugged and kissed all night long and were good to play nicely with one another. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we can keep them good friends... it should be for their benefit, but I think it's more for the parents. ;)

Anyway, we're looking forward to the new year. It's time for a fresh start and we're ready to keep moving forward. Happy 2009 and we wish all of our loved ones the very best!!
